It's Never Too Late for a Straighter, Healthier Smile

When most people think about straightening their teeth, they picture a more beautiful smile. And while improved confidence is certainly one benefit, orthodontic treatment can be about much more than appearance.

At First Impression Dental, we look at the bigger picture. How your teeth are positioned, how they come together, and how they function can all play a role in the long-term health of your smile. For some patients, SureSmile® clear aligners can help us create a healthier, more functional foundation—while also giving them a smile they’re excited to show off.

And one of the questions we hear from adults considering treatment is: “Am I too old to straighten my teeth?”

The answer? A healthier smile doesn’t have an age limit.

Straight Teeth Aren’t Just About Looks

A beautiful smile is wonderful, but tooth alignment can also influence how easily you’re able to care for your teeth and how forces are distributed when you bite and chew.

Crowded, overlapping, or poorly positioned teeth may be more difficult to brush and floss thoroughly. Certain bite relationships can also contribute to uneven wear or place excessive forces on individual teeth.

That’s why we don’t look at orthodontics as purely cosmetic. We consider how tooth position fits into your overall oral health and long-term treatment goals.

Why Consider SureSmile® as an Adult?

Many adults have lived with crowding, spacing, or bite concerns for years because they assumed orthodontic treatment was something they missed their chance to do as a teenager.

Fortunately, that isn’t the case.

SureSmile® clear aligners use a series of customized, removable trays to gradually move the teeth into planned positions. Because the aligners are clear and removable, they can be an appealing option for adults who want treatment to fit more discreetly into their everyday lives.

Depending on your individual needs, improving tooth position may help:

Every patient is different, which is why treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Sometimes Orthodontics Is Only the Beginning

This is where comprehensive treatment planning can make such a difference.

For some patients, clear aligners are the primary treatment they need. For others, orthodontics may be one step in a larger plan.

Before completing veneers, crowns, or other restorative dentistry, moving the natural teeth into more favorable positions can sometimes allow us to approach the next phase of treatment more conservatively and create a better functional foundation.

Instead of simply asking, “How can we make these teeth look better?” we also ask, “How can we create a result that functions well and supports this patient’s long-term oral health?”

That philosophy is an important part of how we approach comprehensive dentistry at First Impression Dental.

What Does the SureSmile® Process Look Like?

Your journey begins with a consultation and evaluation of your teeth, bite, and overall oral health. If clear aligner treatment is appropriate for you, a personalized treatment plan is created based on your specific needs and goals.

You’ll wear a series of clear aligners that gradually guide your teeth toward their planned positions. Throughout treatment, our team monitors your progress and makes sure everything continues moving according to plan.

And because the aligners are removable, you can take them out to eat, brush, and floss—making it easier to maintain your normal oral hygiene routine throughout treatment.
